Bernese Mountain Dogs

I fell in love with the Bernese Mountain Dogs in the late 1980's. Such loving, gentle, loyal dogs that are beautiful as well!  These striking dogs are incredible family dogs and just want to be with the people they love. It took me 30 years to get my first Bernese Mountain Dog, Castle, and he has been everything I've dreamed of.

Our Berners help guard our farm, but mostly they just want to stay by our side. They are large dogs, weight typically between 70 and 120 pounds. They do shed and drool only minimally (mostly if they're outside on a hot day and panting).

Bernese are very intelligent and easily trained. They need a fair amount of exercise and as working dogs, love to have a job. We keep saying that we are going to teach them how to pull a cart, but right now, they mostly just pull the children on their bicycles.

The biggest fault with Bernese Mountain Dogs is their shorter lifespan, some places will say 6-8 years. The AKC actually says the average lifespan is 7-10 years. It may have taken me 30 years to get my first Berner, but now I can't imagine living without one!
